Really Quiznos?

From this ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG042nkReBA .. to this ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aD3y6DAeK_A ... ?

Who is in charge of creating these horrific Quizno's Subs commercials? Do they realize that it makes people (at least me) change the channel immediately? And these odd animals do NOT make me want to eat their subs anymore than I already do. I'd love an explanation for that one.

Unfortunately, it is obvious that I have not been keeping up with this Blog. I'm hoping that my "new life" in the real world won't throw too many bumps at me (more than it already has!). Currently searching for an apartment and car for my new job with MicroStrategy. I'm super excited to start working this week! Be back soon.

Airport Marketing

Landed in Connecticut tonight for our softball games against UCONN. Walking through the airport, there were "interactive" advertisements for an insurance company (whose name escapes my mind - one with the big red umbrella) and it allowed you to "jump" or "touch" the advertisement and the umbrella would move. The red umbrella was made of flower pedals that would float away wherever you touched them. Pretty cool.

Only problem? I can't remember the name of the company in the advertisement - BUT it definitely got my attention. I like the concept .. maybe just needs something more? Maybe I'm just not interested in insurance advertisements, so it would not appeal to me in that aspect. But if kids are interested in "playing" with the ad, maybe it will draw their parents to it?

Who knows?

The iPad isn't even out yet, and they are marketing its accessories.

Apple dominates. I want an iPad.

Missed a day

Hey all.

Missed a day yesterday just because it was quite a long day, with softball, etc. Today was another day - drove in 2 hours of traffic only to have our game canceled due to darkness. Awesome.

Anyway, I'm completely caught up in March Madness, and my bracket has probably been officially washed out with the loss of Kansas in my Midwest bracket. It's pretty crazy to see all of the hype for the basketball teams around the country - even with those people that have no idea what they are doing. Bottom line is, it's awesome how our country can "come together" for those annual"big traditions", while we still have millions of people that refuse to vote for a President.

Kind of off topic from what I'll normally be talking about, but the hype for the Tournament is still awesome, and I love it. I would never want to take anything away from the "madness" it brings about.

Night all.

Movies

I know that it is technically not Thursday anymore, but here is my Thought of the Day ..

I went to Will and Paul's (and Duke's of course), and instead of going to see a movie at the theater, we ended up watching Zombieland, on their beautiful (very large) TV. As the previews were rolling, Paul pointed out that "If you are connected to the Internet, you can stream new previews in place of the ones on the Blu Ray Disc".

HOW COOL IS THAT?? I swear technology never ceases to amaze me. I mean think about it, you can show new previews for movies (instead of the same ones all the time, for old movies), at any point in time. This marketing tactic is just unreal, and I'm sorry I didn't think of it! Hah.

Short post, but such a cool concept.

Night all.

Marketing Strategy

Today had to be the best class I've ever been a part of. My Marketing Strategy class (taught by Ronald Goodstein) was assigned to bring in a product from the grocery store to class today. Since I wasn't in class on Monday (stuck in the airport from our red eye from California), I unfortunately didn't have a product. We were assigned to bring in good or bad packaging and explain them to the class. Here are some products my professor has collected over the years:

Barf (detergent)
Tussy (deodorant)
Cock (chicken soup)
Spotted Dick (sponge pudding)
Baseball cards .. in a can? (metal top for kids to cut their fingers on?)

I'm not sure why these marketing ideas were thought of as "good" ideas in the past, but no one in my class wanted to use them.

Good Marketing
Making sure to know what the consumer wants and marketing to their needs and ideal points. Who wants to use detergent that when you look at the label, you think of vomit? Brand images come through loud and clear on packaging, and packaging can make or break your product.

Branding: the first 5 seconds of advertising. How do you want your brand to look?

Daily Thoughts

This blog is for all my daily thoughts. I am going to try (very hard) to devote at least 5-10 minutes a day to blogging about some daily thoughts: mainly about commercials I've seen (or heard), recent news (international, sports, etc), or even something I may have heard through the grapevine. I think blogging is a great way to discuss and remember new ideas. I hope this ends up working for the best!

Daily Thought: "Procrastination is not the problem, it is the solution" (Thank you, Ellen DeGeneres).
